Mr and Mrs J. A. Walker have returned to Ashburton after a holiday trip of two months in Australia.

The Borough School Committee decided last evening to approve of the appointment of Miss Marjorie H. Evans, of Rangitata, to the position of assistant-mistress.

Miss E. Wilson, who is to be married shortly, was entertained at a social by members of the Girls’ Auxiliary of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church last evening and presented with several useful gifts'.

Mr R. A. Carson, of Ashburton, who has been temporarily in charge of the Mount Somers Anglican Parish, will be ordained as a deacon in the Christchurch Cathedral on November 30 ('St. Andrew’s Day).

Mr R. J. Nell returned to Ashburton this morning, having had to make the last stage of his return from Tauranga by rail and boat on account of bad weather. Mr Nell, accompanied by Mr 11. A. Bprnett, returned to Wellington yesterday in the Canterbury Aero Club’s new tain-engined Jubilee Monospar aeroplane, piloted by Mr J. J. Busch, after taking Airs R. A. Berryman to a convalescent home at Tauranga.

A presentation of a purse of notes was made to Air J. Nelson, at a representative gathering in the Associated Society of Railway .Servants’ social hall, at Greymouth. on Saturday night. A salad bowl was presented for Airs Nelson. Air Nelson will leave on Thursday for Ashburton. The presentation was made by Air P. Greenwood, who wished Air. Nelson every success in the future. In his years of association with their guest he had always found that Air Nelson’s opinions on any matter under discussion were eagerly sought for and highly respected by all members of the Greymouth Labour Party, said Air J. O’Brien, ALP.
