BRITISH PROFESSIONAL TITLE. REES DEFEATS WHITCOMBE. (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, September 18. In the final of the British professional golf tournament at Oxley, Rees defeated E. R. Whitcombe one up. Rees, who is a Welshman, is assistant at the Surbiton Club. He is the only second assistant in 23 years to reach, the semi-final in match play foi the professional championship. Rees is aged 23, five feet six inches high, and is described as a little man without nerves. He produced one of the most amazing recoveries in the history of professional golf. He turned fivci down, and still faced an overwhelming deficit with fourteen holes to go, when he did ten holes in 34. He had birdies at six holes, and only one putt on seven greens. Whitcombe had par figures at the same holes.
