BEDS AT HOSPITAL.

ALLOWANCE FOR TOTAL OF 120.

QUESTION OF NEW EQUIPMENT,

The position with regard to the accommodation at the Ashburton Public Hospital and the provision for further equipment was discussed at the meeting of the Board yesterday, when the following report by £he Medical Superintendent (Mr A. J. Mason) was adopted:— “As requested by the Hospital Committee I am commenting on tho question of Hospital equipment. While the Hospital has been running at a high level of occupied beds for some months, I do not see that this state of affairs will necessarily continue. To my mind, at present (allowing for 120 beds and cots accommodation in tho Hospital), it is desirable to have 80 first-class equipped beds, and about 20 equipped with older equipment, and the remaining 20 covered by the oldest equipment in the Hospital. (' “Investigating the position on this assumption, we find that there are 119 beds and cots in the Hospital (some of them poor, but still serviceable), 104 lockets (some of them old), and 75 chairs. These figures of course include equipment in the isolation block. I think they represent a reasonably satisfactory position for the time being. The high numbers of course, have made big demands on bedding, and some extra blankets and sheets would appear to bo necessary if they persist, but I think the blankets and sheets could be purchased in limited quantities as occasion demands, for the present.”
