EMERGENCY LANDING.

PROVISION NEAR DUNEDIN. DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. The construction of an emergency landing ground for Dunedin at either Waikouaiti or Hampden, or both, is being investigated by the Public Works Department. The Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) stated that he did not know yet how far the City Council would go in providing an emergency ground, but the Government’s policy was to assist local bodies by supplying labour and supervision in the construction of aerodromes. At present, when the Taieri aerodrome was fog-bound, aeroplanes had to return to Timaru, thus disorganising the service. Moreover, the nature of the country surrounding Dunedin suggested the need for emergency landing grounds.
