HOCKEY.

ASHBURTON TEAM RETURNS. The Ashburton women’s representstive hockey team returned last night from Blenheim, where they took part in the New Zealand tournament. A stop was made at Kaikoura yesteiday afternoon to play a match with a local team, the object- being to give encouragement to the game in that locality. 1 . . At afternoon tea at Waipara, the team made presentations to the manager (Mr W. C. Bishop) and the chaperone (Mrs G. Johns), in appreciation of their services .to the team while on tour. The selected New Zealand team which played the Maoris on Saturday included Miss F. Gudsell, of Ashburton. This match was played as a cur-tain-raiser to the final match of the tournament, Eastern v. Otago, in which the referees were Mr Bishop and Miss Wilkin (Wellington).
