Much comment of political significance has intentionally or not developed in London from King Edward’s European tour, notably as some of the countries visited have recently fallen much under German influence. His Majesty’s tour of Turkey seems to have done much toward reviving Anglo-Tnrkish friendship. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diarist, recalling the progressive dropping of the incognito of Duke of Lancaster, wit*, which the King originally began liis holiday tour, says that against the King’s will it has had political significance thrust upon it. His conversation with King George of Greece, his meeting with M. Axas, Kemal Ataturk, and King Boris inevitably excited diplomatic interest. That such contacts were not intended to he formal was evidenced by the fact that no high official of the Foreign Office, such as accompanied King Edward VII. on liis European tours, was present
SIGHT-SEEING IN BULGARIA. (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) SOFIA, September 7. King Edward has arrived here. King Boris welcomed him 50 miles from the capital. King Edward, King Boris and Queen Joanna lunched at Vrania Palace, and afterwards went on a sight-seeing tour. King Edward later entrained for the frontier.
FAREWELLED BY THE TURKS. BRITAIN MORE POPULAR. ISTANBUL, September 7. Crowds watched King Edward’s de parture late last night. His visit nas enormously increased the popularity of Britain. Tlie King’s democratic sightseeing, on foot or in ordinary taxis, delighted the Turks. Thousands crowded the quavs every day in the hope of seeing him, as they - believed it would bring them good luck.
