ROOSEVELT AND LANDON. AN UNPRECEDENTED EVENT. {United Press Association—Copyright.) NEW YOITK, Sept 1 . 3. ; A message from, Desmoines says, that an event unprecedented American politics took place to-day, when President Ilooseyelt and Mr. A. M; Landon, the two rival candidates for the presidency, met at a luncheon for a discussion of a vital national problem. The president, who was on a western tour of the drought area, called a conference of the. governors of the most vitally affected States, among which was Kansts. As the _ chiefs executive of that State, Mr Landon met his opponent formally for the first time.

After cordially greeting each other iii public the two candidates joined their, colleagues for a technical dismission of the drought " problem of the Mid-Western States. It was emphasised by spokesmen for both men that the conference was noiirpolitical. \
