King Edward has arrived here. The entire Turkish fleet, with the crews standing at attention, welcomed , his Majesty, while the guns of the fortresses thundered ■» salute. The President (Kemal Ataturk), .'accompanied by Ministers and the British Ambassador, received hi,s Majesty. Thousands of people lined the streets cheering. ' • ! TO SEE FAMOUS MONUMENTS. . •* * ! (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, September British and Turkish flags ' are' fljfing from houses and public buildings; in Instanbul, and there is ample evidence that the first visit to Turkey ofi a reigning British monarch has amused intense popular enthusiasm. , During liis brief visit the King will see the famous monuments of Constantinople.
According to present arrangements the King will leave on his homeward journey probably on Monday, travelling in a private train, which Kemal Ataturk has placed at his disposal, as far as Vienna, where his Majesty will probably stay for two or three days. The final stage of the King’s journey to England may be made by air.—British Official Wireless.
AT TOPKAPO PALACE. (Received Tins Day, 1,35 p.m.)': INSTANBUL, Sept. 4. Visiting Topkapo Palace, King Edward was shown the harems and treasures of the ex-Sultans.
