THEFT ON HIGH SEAS.
TWO STEWARDS PLEAD GUILTY. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 2. Two stewards, Frederick James, aged 26, and Peter John Frederick Ransom, aged' 17, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to-day to the theft, on the liner Rangitane, between Panama and Wellington, of £4lO in money, letters of credit for £IOO and £BO, and a bank draft for £IOO, of a total value of £Bll, the property of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The chief steward said that Ransom on a second interview admitted having taken the money. James admitted having been with him when the offence was committed. The men produced the missing money, hut said that if they had taken any letters of credit they had been thrown overboard, together with certain envelopes.
iD'etective-Sergeant Tricklebank said that both accused made statements clearing up the matter. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
