MOTHERS’ UNION.

THE TINWALD BRANCH.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. The Timvald branch of the Mothers’ Union held its annual meeting in the Parish Hall recently. There was a record attendance of members and visitors from Ashburton, Itakaia, and Methven. Mrs Jennings (president) presided. The afternoon took the form of a musical afternoon, the following items being presented :—Pianoforte duet, Mrs H. Clark and Miss P. Clark ; songs, Mrs J. Boffey and Miss M. Jennings; piano solo, Miss M. Jennings. The accompaniments were played by Mrs H. Clark and, Miss Jennings. A dramatic play, entitled ‘The Price of Coal,” was ably performed. The characters were: Jack Tyldesley (son), the Rev. H. Childs; Ellen Tyldesley (Jack’s mother), Mrs Bayliss*; Mary Bradshaw (Jack’s cousin), Mrs Roffey ; Polly Livesey (a neighbour), Mrs C. Bell.

In thanking the performers, the president especially thanked Mrs Roffey for her untiring effort in producing and staging such an excellent play, which gave the audience a glimpse ol the real life of a Lancashire coalminer’s home. A dainty afternoon tea was served. The hostesses were Mesdames H. Bell, E. Bell, C. Bell, H. Millichamp, J. Roffey, Bayliss, and T. Gudsell.
