DEATH IN COURT

MAN CHARGED WITH OFFENCE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER ADJOURNMENT. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, This Day. Sudden death wrote “finis” ill a licensing case at the Police Court today, under dramatic circumstances. Alexander Bell, a middle-aged, main, a stone mason, stood on the floor of the Court alongside two companions, charged with having been found on licensed premises. He protested that he had not gone there to procure liquor, which was accepted as a plea of not guilty. As the police were not prepared to go on, the case was adjourned. Barely a minute afterwards Bell sagged forward, crumpling on his knees. One of his companions and a constable gathered the stricken man under the armpits and, carried him into the corridor, where he expired within a minute, before a doctor could arrive.
