WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT. EASTERN SOUTHLAND’S CHANCES CPer Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Sept. 2. Although there is still another day of section play in the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament, it is apparent that the present holders of the “K” Cup, Eastern Southland, is going to be one of the semi-finalists, with a royal chance of retaining the championship. Eastern again won its game comfortably, beating Wellington, the hardest of the other teams in the section, decisively. The winners gave another brilliant display, showing superb combination in the forwards.

With the defeat of Marlborough B by Otago, the position in Section A is very open, as Otago is one point behind Marlborough, with a hard game against Ruahine to-morrow. Marlborough has completed its section games. In the event of Otago and Ruahine drawing, Marlborough B and Otago will be equal in points, and will have to play off for section honours

In the B Section, Canterbury is assured of qualifying for the semi-finals. The match between Otago and Marlborough B attracted much interest today. It was an even game right to the end, and Marlborough was unlucky not to draw, as it just failed to finish off numerous attacks. The weather was again beautiful, and the grounds were in improved order. Results were: — Section A. Otago 1, Marlborough B 0. Southland 1, Ruahino 1. Ashburton, a bye. Section B. South Otago 6, Nelson 1. Auckland 4; Wairarapa 1. Canterbury 9, Marlborough A 2. Section C. Eastern Southland 7, Wellington 0. Akitio 5, Wanganui 3. Poverty Bay 3, South Canterbury 0.
