THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

“A TERRIBLE ORDEAL.” ARCHBISHOP LANG’S SYMPATHY (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, August 31. The Archbishop of Canterbury (the Most Rev. Dr. Cosmo Gordon Lang) concurs in the advisability of keeping the fire in Spain within its borders. He profoundly sympathises with the Spanish Catholic Church in its terrible ordeal, and adds: “Doubtless that Church may have grievous imperfections and may have fallen short in its trust for

the people, but let any Church without imperfections cast the first stone. Our prayers must go out for the clergy, religious communities and nuns suffering for their faith in a country that contains some of the world’s noblest churches.
