(From Our Own Correspondents.) MONTALTO. A SUCCESSFUL HARE DRIVE. A successful hare drive was held on Thursday in aid of the Montalto School Committee’s funds. Thirty shooters got 250 hares and 8 rabbits. The chairman (Mr J. McCormick) thanked the shooters for coming in fine weather, and the ladies for providing luncheon and afternoon tea. LOWCLIFFE. ENJOYABLE CONCERT. A concert in aid of the school funds was held in the school on Friday evening. Mr G. Tait was chairman. The following items were given:—(Pianoforte duet, Mrs Gilliand and Miss Ford ; songs, Mrs D'onaldson, Miss P. Wilson, the Rev. E. Walsh, and Mr F. McGuinness; recitations, Miss Ownsworth and Mr Walsh; mouth organ solos, Miss Grace Ownsworth, Miss M. Hansen and Master Colin McKay. Two one-act plays, “Elizabeth Refuses,” and “April Showers,” were given by the Lowcliffe and Ealing Drama Circles respectively. Those acting were:—Lowcliffe: Mrs D. Mcßae, Misses M. McKeage, O. Ownsworth, F. Tait, and the Rev. E. Walsh ; Ealing: Mrs J. Withell, Mrs Donaldson, Misses P. W 7 ithell, H. Galletly, I. Jones, and McGuigan. The accompanists were Mrs Donaldson, Miss Ford and, Mr J. McGuinness. Tire concert concluded with the National Anthem, after which supper was served. BARRHILL. FAREWELL PRESENTATION. Many residents and friends from Christchurch, Ashburton, and surrounding districts met in the Barrliill schoolroom to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs H. T. Stephens and family, who have left the district to live at' Hinds. The first part of the evening was spent playing cards, successful players being Mrs W. Stephens (Christchurch) and Mr J. Allen (Rakaia). Mr Holmes, on behalf of the residents and friends, presented Mr and Mrs Stephens with a Jacobean canteen of cutlery. Misses Doris and Daphne Stephens and Mr Allan Stephens also received gifts. Other speakers were Messrs Wise (Christchurch), Richardson (Ashburton), and Cunncen (Ashburton). Dancing was enjoyed to musicplayed by Mr T. Lawler. Miss B. Chambers and Mr Sutton won a Monte Carlo dance. Mr W. Holmes was Master of Ceremonies. s LAURISTON. SOCIAL AND DANCE. There was an excellent attendance at the fortnightly social and, dance held under the auspices of the Lauriston Social Club, on Saturday evening. Competitions, controlled by Messrs H. Farquhar, C. McKenzie, and D. Hampton, resulted: Mrs J. A. Mackie I, Miss Eileen Maidens 2; Mr J. Crozier (Rokeby) 1; Mr W. Irwin (Rokeby) 2. Music for the dancing was played by Mr T. Lawler (Rakaia), and Mr 13. Anderson (Rakaia) played an extra. Mr O. McKenzie was Master of Ceremonies. SEAFIELD. WEEKLY CARD MATCH. At the weekly card match held by the Seafield Miniature Rifle Club, H. Bruce won the men’s prize with a score of 143, R. Grice, 141, being runner-up. Miss J. Mitchell took the ladies’ prize with a score of 153, Miss M. Baynes, 134, (being runner-up. A card match with Chertsey will be held to-morrow at Chertsey.
