EWE HOGGETS
THE METHVEN COMPETITION. AWARDS BY THE JUDGES. The Methven Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual ewe hogget competition was judged on Friday by Mr It. J. Martin (Seafield) and Colonel J. Findlay (Eiffelton). The competition was limited to exhibitors residing in the Mount Hutt district. Two classes were judged—halfbred or Corriedale and three-quarter-bred or crossbreds. Seven entries were received. The judges’ awards and their remarks on the entries are as follow: Halfbred or Corriedale Ewe Hoggets. George Kelly (Winehmore), breeding and type 13, Constitution 33, wool 40; total 86 points. Good, well-grown Corriedales A few weak-woolled on shoulder. Well-grown good type; good even quality of wool. Hunter Morris (Winehmore), 13, 29, 40; total 82. Good-class sheep, even in size. V. W. Wright (Methven), 10, 30, 35, total 75. Two lots were judged. The owner’s own breeding. Very good, and even in wool. A difficult class to judge. Alex. Goodwin (Lauiriston), 10, 28, 30, total 68. Heavy-woolled sheep of mixed quality. The wool was badly stained and the greater part of the wool was blind. The sheep were well grown. Three-quarter or Crossbred. V. W. Wright (Methven), breeding and type (15) 13, constitution (40) 38, wool (45) 33; total (100) 86. The sheep were very well grown and in good condition, carrying dense fleece of good quality. A vary good line and hard to fault. Type, Romney! cross. William Marshal (Winehmore), 12 SO, 30, total 72. English Leicester cross, with even wool. Well grown and fairly heavy clippers. S. G. Holmes (Methven), 10, 30, 28, total 68. English Leicester cross. Fairly well grown and in very good condition. Itather short bodied but good average type.
