ASHBURTON WOMEN’S MATCH. NORTH OTAGO DEFEATED. In a fast, even hockey match on the Ashburton Domain on Saturday, the Ashburton women’s representative team beat North Otago by three goals to nil. There was a good deal of up and down play during the game, Ashburton having a slight advantage. The local forwards were more consistent than the visitors in circle play. A feature of the match was several snappy passing rushes by the forwards of both teams. The teams were: — Ashburton. Goal: K. McKay. Backs: A. Loach, M. Watson. Halves: W. Lowe, D. Fowke, R. Donaldson. Forwards: F. Gudsell, B. Brand, P. Brand, J. Davison, J. Jary. Reserves: J. Lowe, F. Donaldson, E. Anderson, N. Tatterson. North Otago Goal—E. Gibson. Backs—M. Howard, R. Clare (captain). Halves—o. Davis, Bedford, J. Ranch ffe. Forwards—<o. Hampton, Mrs Purvis, Watson, N. Hampton, D. Kelcher. Soon after the bully-off Ashburton took play to the North Otago circle, and although Ashburton was awarded several penalty corners it could not penetrate the defence* A snappy run by the visiting forwards took the game to the other end of the field. There was a fair amount of up and down play until F. Gudsell (Ashburton) snapped up and centred to P. Brand, who opened Ashburton’s score with a good goal. Ashburton 1 North Otago 0 Although there was no further score before half-time Ashburton had a slight advantage. The visitors pressed on the resumption and N. Hampton, the left wing, took an unsuccessful shot at goal. Ashburton got away in a good run and carried the game to the visitors’ circle. North Otago withstood the attack for a time. Ashburton kept up the pressure and D. Fowke transferred to P. Brand, who shot her second goal. Ashburton ... 2 North Otago -. 0 The Ashburton forwards pressed again, carrying the game to the North Otago circle and P. Brand quickly added another goal. Ashburton 3 North Otago 0 The game ended with no further score. Messrs W. Purvis (Oamaru) and C. Bishop (Ashburton) were the referees. ASHBURTON MEN’S MATCHES In a representative trial match played by the Ashburton Men’s Hockey Sub-Association on Saturday was won by the B team by seven goals to two. The goalkeeper originally selected for the A team was changed round to play for the other side, and brought off some wonderful saves, or else the result might have been different. The scorers for the B team were Page (three), Wilson (three), and Lees, and for the A team AY. Corbett (two). In the junior grade Ashburton defeated Baring Square. Quatitsbras Cup Match Team. The following team will represent Ashburton at Christchurch next Saturday in their match for the Quatrebras Cup:—Goal—E. Tinker. Backs—E. Horrill, G. Kelly. Halves —L. Snell, H. H.
