TOTAL I SATO R INVESTMENTS. GREAT INCREASE FOR SEASON. The secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Mr H. R. Sellers) has issued a return which shows that the aggregate totalisator investments in New Zealand for the 1935-36 season at both racing and trotting meetings were considerably more than £500,090 more than the investments of the previous year. Won by a short head; three-quarters of a length between second and third. Custos was fifth and Ilium last. Time, 1.145. Second Division: Ramdin 8.7 (J. O’Sullivan) 1, The Athenian 7.8 2, Our Hope 8.3 3. Jubilee Singer raced greenly throughout. Time, 1.145. Omarere was unplaced in the Flying Handicap, and Golden Treasure was unplaced in the Rosebery Handicap. August Handicap, of 250 sovs; one mile—Dermid, 7.11 (W. Doyle) 1, Mala 7.8 2, Verberry 7.13 3. Fourteen started, including Loud Applause, who was fourth, and Golden Gate. Won by a length ; one and three-quarter lengths between second and third. Time, 1.40 — a race record. Brush Hurdle Handicap, of 100 sovs; about one mile and a half—Havaspot 9.12 (R. Malcolm) 1, Flying Bullet 9.0 2, Gay Eaton 9.1 3. Won by four lengths; a neck between second and third. Time, 2.44*. WILLIAMSTOWN RACING CLUB. MELBOURNE, August 23. At the Williamstown races the following was the result of the Underwood Stakes, of 750 sovs; weight-for-age; one mile and 55 yards —Petit Fils p.l (E. Preston) 1, Valiant Chief 9.0 (K. Voitre) 2, Young Idea 9.0 (H. Skidmore) 3. Twelve horses started, including Prince Quex. Won by a head ; two lengths between second and third. Valiant Chief appeared to have the race won when Petit Fils, who, finishing brilliantly along the rails, just got up in time to win. Remission was unplaced in the steeplechase, Barnum being unplaced in the August Handicap. ADELAIDE RACING CLUB. ADELAIDE, August 23. Following is the result of the Grand National Steeplechase, of 300 sovs; about three miles—Rusticana 10.3 (Ryan) 1, Bounty Silver 10.9 (McMahon) 2, Two Kings 11.4 (Webster) 3. Twelve started. Won by a length; four lengths between second and third. Time, 5.51 —a State record. RACE MEETING POSTPONED. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 22. Owing to the Pakuranga races being postponed till Wednesday, the Taranaki and Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club meeting, which was to have been held at New Plymouth next Thursday and Saturday, has been postponed till September 3 and 5. HORSE AND TRAINER DlS* QUALIFIED. BRISBANE, August 23. The stipendiary stewards of the Queensland Turf Club disqualified the New South Wales trainer, J. Jurd, the jockey, C. Barns, and the horse Beau Cheval, for a year. The owner, C. Thompson, was exonerated. Action, was taken following Beau Cheyal’s winning easily at Ascot yesterday, when he was well backed, com-

pared with his efforts at Doomben on August 8, when he was not so well supported, and finished seventh.
