LABOUR LEGISLATION.
FINANCIAL PAPER’S CRITICISM. ‘SOMETHING LIKE A REVOLUTION.’ (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, August 19. The “Financial News” says: “With less dramatic European events, the experiments the Savage Government is making in New Zealand would have commanded considerable interest. Actually Mr Savage has accomplished something like a revolution without arousing any real discussion in Britain. Moreover, he has enacted his policy with a rapidity second only to M. Blum (Prime’ Minister of France) and effectiveness second to none. “New Zealand at present is prosperous, and while exports expand there should be no question of New Zealand’s credit status. On the other hand, Mr Savage ostensibly does not intend to follow the footsteps of Mr J. T. Lang, his views may change if a depression again hits New Zealand.
“In short, the Savage Government in time of prosperity is unlikely to bother the British investor, but when a depression comes the story may be quite different.”
