Wild confusion occurred at the' gates of the Royal National Showgrounds when an outgoing stream of about 50,000 spectators met thousands of persons entering for the night session. A terrific jam occurred. Women screamed and fainted. One' woman who was caught in the thick of the crush collapsed and died.

Sailors from visiting warships, and police were unable to clear a passageway until the pressure had been e'assecl by thousands escaping into the streets.
