ARTIFICIAL LAKE.
“POOL OF THE BAD FAIRY.” The greatest artificial lake in Ireland is to be built to provide Dublin with extra water, power and light. Dublin has been expanding ond people in new houses on higher ground find difficulty in obtaining water through the decreased pressure. In the wilds of the "Wicklow mountains the River Liffey runs over a fall and down a slope into a pool, which legend has called Poulaphouca, the pool of the little bad fairy. The slope is to be cut away so that the sheer drop of the water will bo doubled to provide the power. A valley three times the size of Phoenix Park in Dublin is to be dammed and flooded to make an artificial lake 6000 acres in extent. One of the finest mountain roads in Ireland, running from Poulaphouca across Wicklow Gap to Glendalough, is to be rebuilt for 100 miles. The scheme will cost about £3,000,000 and will take about four years to complete.
