EXTENSION IN WESTLAND.
SERVICE TO HAAS'I‘ PASS. “ - TELEPHONE ‘LINK URGED. (Per Press Association.) HOKITIKA, This Day. In view of the decision to undertake the Haast Pass road construction, Air Travel, Ltd, has decided to exte‘nd its operations to the Haast Valley. To that end landing grounds have been selected right to the Burke Hut, at the foot of the Haast Pass. Whe‘n the workmen are employed urgent supplies, mails and parcels can 'be delivered at regular intervals instead of waiting days for the pack-horse servxce.
The aeroplane service will also be invaluable in cases of sickneSS, accident or other emergency-among the workmen. The Westland Progress League last e‘vening resolved to urge the Postal Department to make the South Westland air mail twice—weekly, also to consider erecting atelephone line along the Haast Pass se‘rvice road construction operations and to provide a duplicate outlet. for the far southern district, as well as to overhaul the existing telephone service via. Mahitahi'. ,
