BIBLE CLASSES.
PRESBYTERIAN DISTRICT COMMITTEE. WORK IN ASHBURTON COUNTY. The work of the Ashburton Presbyterian Bible Class District Committee over the past year was reviewed at the annual meeting held on Friday evening, when the president (Mr L. Houston) presided over a fairly large attendance of delegates from all parts of the County.
Reference was made to the death at Opotiki of Mrs It. Morgan and a motion of sympathy witli the relatives was carried in silence.
The annual report stated that there had' been a good deal of visitation to country classes. A rally had been hold at Hinds, on Labour Day, when 205 members attended. Sixteen members went to. the conference at Dunedin. The Young Men’s Committee had held a successful rally at Tinwald Domain. Reference to the loss sustained by the district in the departure of Mr E. Hamilton was made. The officers had been pleased to welcome the Revs. I). D. MacLachlan, L. V. Ilibby and E. 0. Walsh during the year. The Young Women’s report stated that two members attended the South Canterbury camp at Teinuka and four went to the Canterbury camp at Kaiapoi. There were 10 affiliated classes with a membership of 170, and eight unaffiliated classes in the County. The Young Men’s report stated that a fair amount of literature had been distributed, and assistance had been given to missions. The leadership training course had been taken up enthusiastically. There were 10 affiliated classes with a membership of 130 and five unaffiliated classes in the County. The reports expressed thanks to the officers for their work, special reference being made to Mrs 11. S. Watson, Miss B. Muirhead and Mr D. Harwood.
It was stated that preparations for the Easter Camp were well in hand.
Officers were elected as follow:—District President, Mr L. Houston; Young Women’s President, Miss L. Tucker; Y.W. vice-president, Mrs Tv. L. Marshall; Young Men’s President, Mr M. Houston ; Y.W. secretary, Miss I. Lithgow ; Y.M. secretary, Mr B. Harwood ; Y.W. treasurer, Miss A. Wilson; Y.M. treasurer, Mr F. Bonnington (Wakanui). A social hour was spent at the conclusion of the meeting.
