MEETING TOO LATE.

BUSINESSMEN AND A BILL.

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Hay. In the matter ot speed the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has been outstripped by the Government. To consider the Prevention of Profiteering Bill a general meeting of members ol the Chamber had been called for this morning, but the gathering of business men had lost its sting, as the Bill went through the Lower House last night. When the meeting ended, after about half an hour’s discussion, the said that the speakers pointed out that urgency had been granted to the Bill, and that certain amendments had been made.

Thei question was referred to the Chamber’s legislation committee, which will meet to-morrow evening to prepare a report.
