THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

RESERVE RENTALS RAISED. The monthly meeting of the council of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society was held last evening, when Mr A. O. Pilbrow (chairman) presided. There were also present Messrs D. Lynch, A. J. Millichamp, G. Kelly, A. Cates, H. G. Kemp and H. R. C. McElrea.

An invitation to visit its Teniuka property was received from the South Canterbury Society, and it was accepted. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Pilbrow, Millichamp and Kelly' was appointed to make arrangements in connection with the (Society’s jubilee dinner, to he field on August 29. Mr A. W. Parrott, of the N.Z. Fresh Water Research Committee, wrote asking if it was possible to obtain a supply of American brook trout for the Southland Society'.

The chairman stated that it was too late in the season to secure ova, hut that a reply liad been forwarded stating that an attempt would be made to supply Southland next season. The question of ground rents at the society’s reserves for 1936-37 was discussed. Tho secretary (Mr J. B. Nicoll) presented a statement showing the expenditure incurred in the maintenance and upkeep of the reserves during tho last three years, and also the revenue received from ground rents. Members considered that from these figures it appeared the society was obtaining practically no revenue from this source after paying expenses, and it was felt that the rents should he increased. It was unanimously decided that the tents he as follow: Rakaia reserve £l, Hakatere Reserve £T 10s, Rangitata Reserve £l. It was also decided that members who occupy or allow other (versons to occupy their lints continuously, for a longer period, than three months, shall pay an additional rent of 10s a month or portion thereof, in excess of the three months. It was decided to communicate with the North Canterbury, South Canteribury, Waimate and Waitaki societies, with a view to obtaining their support and co-operation in a request to the Department that selling licenses for salmoln caught by' rod or line should he abolished.
