PROGRESS ON MAIN TRUNK LINE
(Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, July 27. Good. progress has been made, with preliminary work on the South Island Main Trunk railway at \Vharanui, where the headquarters for the northern section of the line has now been established. About 50 men are now assembled there, and it is expected that about 30 or 40 men will be on the job during this week. Mr E. P. Meachen, M.'P., who visited thaa'anui in the week—end, said this morning that he [had been highly im—pressed with the progress made and with the keenness of the men to pro—ceed with! the work. Difficulty was still beng encountered in providing accommodation, but he. understood that timber was to: be obtained from the. \Vest Coast, supplies having, apparently been held up through bad weaflher. The whole appearance and jatmoSphere of Wharanui has been greatly altered since the work was resumed, and everyone appeared to be well satis~ fied with the progress that had been made. “
