ASHBURTON WOMEN’S GAMES. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The Aishburton Ladies’ Hockey Association continued its competition matches on Saturday in excellent weather. Details • Senior. Hinds A (scratch) defeated Kereone (handicap 2) by nine goals to two when they played at Ashburton. The scorers were M. Donaldson (three) J. Davison (three), L. Donaldson (two), R. Donaldson (one). Messrs C. Bishop and E. M. Gabites were referees. Another clear victory was gained by Tinwald (scratch) when they defeated Wakanui (handicap three) by nine goals to three at the Domain. Displaying her usual accuracy in shooting M. Henderson scored five goals, while F. Gudsell scored two, and J. Henderson and P. Watson one each. Mr W. B. Thomas was referee. Rakaia (handicap two) defeated Bar-
ing Square, playing off the same handicap. by seven to four in a match at Rakaia. Mr J. Wylie was referee. An interesting match was that beween Hinds B _ (handicap four) and Methven (handicap two), played at Ashburton, in v.hich Methven won by nine goals to fix. Several of the Hinds players were conspicuous for their gen-> eral good play and sound defence. O. Davison in the forwards and C. Cmsnail in the backs being outstanding. The Methven forwards did not play up to their usual form and the team was frequently penalised for offside play. Several promising young players were seen in action. The scorers were tor Methven K. Smith ajid Joyce Cleevo (three each) and Gwen Owen one, and for Hinds 0. Davison two. Messrs C Bishop and W. B. Thomas were referees. Junior. Hinds defeated Rakaia by .four goals to one in a match at Hinds. Mrs S Hampton was referee. A decisive win was obtained by Methven over Tinwald at Methven. The home team won by eight goals to two. Mr G. Johns was referee. MEN’S TRIAL MATCH In preparation for coming representative fixtures a Possibles v. Probables match was played by the Ashburton Men’s Hockey Sub-Association on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the Probables by four goals to two. Messrs C. Bishop and A. C. Vincent were referees. The match between A. and B. teams was not played.
