“COMMONSENSE”

JOINING SECONDARY SCHOOLS. OPINION OF THE MINISTER. AMALGAMATION OF BOARDS. “It is the commonsense thing to do in Ashburton,” said the Minister of Education i(tlxe Hon. P. Fraser) in Ashburton, this afternoon when speaking to members of the Ashburton High School Board at the school farm on the subject of the amalgamation of the two secondary schools. “Some of the difficulties that faced the two Boards in the past have been removed,” he added, “and tee way seems clear to carry on with amalgamation. “You have, a good farm here, anci the Technical School pupils could make good use of it, while there is equipment at the Technical School that ihe High School pupils could use to advantage.” The Minister added that it was ms idea that the Boards should, amalgamate, leaving the schools to operate as they are at present* It was stated that the question of amalgamation would probably be approached by the two Boards in the near future.
