THE. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union met last evening, when the president (Mr H‘. R. D. Porter) presided. It had been agreed to ask the Ashburton Silver Band to attend, and the Schools Sports Association had offered to put on a schools match as a curtain raiser. The report was adopted. The Ashburton Riigljy Referees’ Association wrote requesting a grant of two guineas as its annual affiliation fee, and for a. grant of one guinea ft 1' new «rule books.

The Old Boys‘ junior team had always been a, strong side and many of the Rakaia junior players had been bitter in their denunciation of the Union’s policy. The Club held that such unwarranted regrading of players was aretrograde step, and youngs players would not play against old timers who had been reclassified. ~ _

It was: pointed out that Sharplin had played only three senior matches and it was agreed that the Club be notified that reclassification was carried out where it was felt to be justified. The Rakaia Clul) wrote that it had decided to play a benefit match on [O- - of J. Lanvlrei', who recently broke :1 leg While playing in a match for Rakaia, and it suggested that the senior match, Old Boys and R-akaia, in the third round ,should he set down for decision at Rakaia. 7
