FRUIT AND PRODUCE. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Another quiet week has ibeen reported on the Ashburton fruit and produce market. Although this time of year is never an active one for fruit and produce, merchants state that this year business is abnormally small. A rise in apples is anticipate}: shortly, but it is expected that the rise in prices will not be large. Prices were not changed this week. Values are as follow : Potatoes-35 a. sugar-bag. Bacon—~9d and-10d a Ib. Wheat—Seconds, 12s to 13s a sack. Honey—6M to 7d a 111. Onions—ld a pound. Walnuts—4d and 5d 21, Ib. Dessert Apples-43 6d to 55 6d a case. Cabbages—3d and 4d. ' Carrots—2s a sugar bag. Pears—ls 6d and 23 a case. Cooking Apples—33 to 4s a case. Swedes—~lß 6d a. sugar-bag. Marrows—Ad, 6d and 18, according to size. 'Parsnips—Zs a sugar-bag. Chaff~2s 6d a bag. Cauliflowers—3s, 4s, and 5s a dozen.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. THE DUNEDIN MARKET. (Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, June 12. The market for fowl wheat is inclined to weaken, and the local price is 4s 6d a bushel, ex truck. Offerings Of oats from the country are light. There is still a. demand from Canterbury for lines suitable for seed purposes. A fair number of transactions have taken place in the 'l‘apanui and Gore districts for railing through to Canterbury and North Otago. The shipping demand is not veny brisk, and in View of the increased prices being paid in the country, merchants have raised their f.o.b.s.i. quotations, which are now 35 2d for A Gartons and 39 for B’s. 'Buyers are not responding to these prices. There should still be: a fair quantity of oats required fori seed“. Lines in the country are worthi “2s 9d, sacks extra, on trucks, for heavy Cartons, and from 2s 4d to 2s 6d for other grades. The demand for chaff continues quiet with the price for best quality remaining steady at £4 10s to £4: 15s a. ton, ex trucks. Supplies are being draWn from Canterbury, and lines have also been arriving from ‘Otago districts. Some of the chaff is discoloured, and is not readily sale able, and has to be taken into store. Sales are mostly confined to small lots, ex storeJ at £5 5s a ton for best qual—ity. Sales of potatoes have been hard to efiect. Shipping values have shown a decline, and the local market has also weakened. Best quality Arran Chiefs are worth £5 5s a ton ex truck, with King Edwards of sound quality worth a higher figure, The market for all varieties of seeds is quiet, with practically no business passing. During the week there has been an inquiry for fescuo and a. few sales have been made for shipment. Ordinary ryegrass is still neglected and the vocksfoot market, although steady, ‘is quiet. The market for other seeds, such as white clover and ryegl‘ass, is also quiet. Brown Top seed is neglectcd.
