CROQUET.
THE ASHBURTON CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The Ashburton Croquet Club held its annual meeting last evening, Mrs Andrew Lane presiding. The year began with a credit of £2l 3s 9d, and ended with a credit of £lO 12s 4d. Members’ subscriptions totalled £63 ss. The annual report said that because of the wet summer, last season was disappointing, but the club fixtures were well contested, and some good play resulted. Saturday play for the Tucker and Watt trophies did not attract as many players as in former years. Four teams were entered in the South Canterbury Croquet Association’s flag competitions, the club’s C team being successful in winning the C flag. One junior team was entered in the Gala Cup competition, but lost to: Methven. Miss Eagle (a former junior champion), and Mrs It. J. Thompson, had left the district. Smallbone; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames E. B. Newton, It. J. Tucker, G. Meddins, and L. C. C. Dunn ; honorary secretary, Mrs E. Ruddock ; treasurer, Mr J. E. Carter; captain, Mrs J. F. Oleary; committee, Mesdames C. J. McEachen, D. Heenan, W. H. Amos, C. J. Cowan, G. B. Williams, W. J. Minogue, and W. C. J. Osman; refreshment committee, Mesdames W. J. Minogue (convener), E. A. Cockroft, W. O. J. Osman, W. JMoore, and A. Lane; delegates' to the Ashburton Sports Association, Mesdames Ituddock, Cleary, and Mr J. Thompson. It was decided to hold a Yankee tournament instead of a handicap singles tournament. It was also decided to play the A grade championship on the one-life system of the best two games out of three, and the B and C grades on the two-life system as formerly. THE WAIREKA CLUB. The Waireka Croquet Club held its annual meeting ybsterday, the president (Mrs J. M. Wilkie) presiding. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit, while the report stated that the season had been very successful. Officers elected were President, Mrs J. M. Wilkie; vice-president, Mrs D. Fitzgerald,; captain and secretary, Miss E. Hardwick; vice-captain, Miss M. MacMillan; treasurer, Mrs C. Vial; committee, Mesdames H. Flatman, G. Arthur, S. Mitchell, E. Loftus, Miss Forsyth; tea convener, Mrs G. Arthur; match committee, the president, captain, and Mrs Flatman; auditor, Mr F. A. Hickmam
