LATE MR J. S. CROOKS.
FUNERAL AT GREYMOUTH. The funeral of the late Mr J. S. Crooks, formerly of Ashburton, at Greymouth last week was largely attended, 73 cars following the cortege. The Rev. H. R. Fell conducted the Presbyterian funeral service at the Karoro Cometeiy and at Mr Crooks’ former residence, while Mr H. It. Barrett read a Masonic service, and Mr M, Garth sounded tho Last Post. The hearers were Messrs H. It. Barrett (Mawliera Masonic Lodge), P. J. McLean (P.P.’s Association), F. Costello (Fire Brigade and Boxing Association), W. Fletcher (Bowling Club), F. H. Denton (Borough Council), R. Wells and Arnold Hughes (Christchurch). Various lodges, spoits bodies, and business interests were represented, while Messrs .11, Morgan (president) and A Naylor (secretary) represented the Justices of the Peace Association.
Among tho floral tributes were wreaths from the following: Brethren of Lodge Alawhera. No. 130, president and members of the Greymouth Boxing Association, West Coast Justices of the Peace Association, Makura Croquet Chib, Greymouth Bowling Club, Greymouth Returned Soldiers’ Association, Greymouth Swimming Club.
