DEFENCE IN THE AIR
“SUREST GUARD TO PEACE.”

LONDON, May 1
In his speech at Primrose League meeting the Prime Minister (Mr S. Baldwin) said that it had had begun to redeem the promise it made at the general election to overhaul the national defences. He emphasised that the greatest peril of the world to-day came from tho air, and it was in the air that the Government was making the greatest efforts to strengthen the defence. In his view strength was in the air, and the knowledge of that strength abroad and of the defence prepared against air attack were the surest guard to peace. “My whole aim as Prime Minister,” said Mr Baldwin, “is peace, not out of a spirit of cowardice but because I realise what war means for Europe. I pledge myself that the Government is doing everything to procure and maintain peace, which is now its arduous and daily task.” —British Official Wireless.
