The United Australia Party Convention approved the principle oi a 40hour week. It decided to urge the Federal Government to examine methods wlieieby economic and constitutional difficulties precluding immediate adoption of a 40hour week may be overcome. Sir Frederick Stewart, M.P., pleaded for the application of a shorter working week to Australian industries. He moved the motion, which was agreed to by a large majority. The convention resolved that State Ministers diould be selected by tne parliamentary party, instead of as at, present, by the Premier. “When the selection is left to flie leader alone, there is always room fo* the intrustion of outside influences, declared Mr R. W. Weaver, forniviiv a Minister of fhe Stevens Cabinet.
