GAMING CHARGES.
FINE OF £IOO IMPOSED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March. 12. A raid on the Victoria Club, Willis Street, resulted in the appearance of 29 men before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day. Jules Menzoni, aged 38, a salesman, was charged with using the premises as a common gaming house, and Frank Peters, aged 27, a labourer, with assisting. The others were charged with being on the premises. All pleaded guilty. The police said that they) found a game of hazards being played. Money and dice were on the table. Menzoni had been conducting the club since February. He had a conviction at Wellington in 1930, when he was fined £SO, one at Christchurch which cost him £75, a third at Wellington in 1935, which also cost him £75. It was obvious that he had taken to gambling as a profession. A fine of £IOO was imposed, the magistrate saying his duty was to see that the law was enforced. A warning was also given that a term of imprisonment with hard labour would be imposed if accused came before him again. Peters was fined £2O. The first offenders of the other men were each fined £2 and the others £3, with costs in all cases. \
