EVENT OF MARRIAGE. THE KING SEEKS PROVISION. MATTER OF THE PRIVY PURSE. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) LONDON, March. 11. In the House of Commons, the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) read the King’s message dealing with the Privy Purse, in which his Majesty desired that the contingency of his’ marriage should be taken into acoount, so in, that event there should be provision for the Queen and members of his family. Mr W. Thorne (Labour): Does his Majesty give any guarantee that ho is going to marry ? No reply was made. ( r The message also asked for provision for the Duke of York as heir-presump-tive. BELIEVED UNPRECEDENTED. TO AVOID SECOND APPLICATION. " r;.‘: (Received This Day, 12.35 p-jn*) LONDON, March 11.The King’s request to consider the contingency of his marriage is believed to he without precedent. Edward VIII is the first bachelor King since Geoige 111, who married between liis accession and his Coronation, so there, is no modern parallel. A ■ high authority' states that the King’s request was made to avoid a second application to Parliament in-the event of his marriage.. . • It is recalled that Queen Victoria’s marriage to Prince Albert was followed by an application for an annuity of £50,000 a year to the consort, but was opposed, and finally reduced to £30,000. «
