The House of Representatives approved to-day a record peace-time army appropriation of 545,000,000 dollars, including 7,000,000 dollars for fortifications on Hawaii, the Panama Canal, and the Pacific coast. Mr G. H. Cary, chairman of the appropriations sub-committee } said that it had prepared a report on a 540,000,000 dollar naval bill providing for the construction of , 333 aeroplanes, 12 destroyers, six submarines and other craft. It is understood that the Navy Department has urged the committee, in the event of a collapse of the London Naval Conference, to authorise the early construction of the largest battleships the world has ever seen.
