SPECIAL SERVICES.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING. * t THE ASHBURTON CHURCHES. Harvest thanksgiving services were held at several Ashburton churches yesterday, attendances being good considering inclement Aveather. There was a fine display of goods at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. These were arranged by members of the choir, who also decorated the church for the’evening services. All services were conducted by the Rev. R. S'- Wat' son, Avlio took “Vines or Vegetables as his subject at the evening service. Special music Avas sung by the choir, and a duet Avas sung by Miss C. Miller and Miss I. Jamieson at the evening service. The harvest gifts will be sent to the Presbyterian Orphanage at Christchurch. The services at the Baring Square Methodist Church Avere conducted by the Rev. H. S. Kings, of Christcnurch. Special music sung included “Got! s Garden” by the children’s choir, and the anthems “Ye Shall Daa’cll in the Land,” “I Will Feed My Flock,” “Let All the World,” and “iPraise the Lord, O Jerusalem,” by the adult choir. The proceeds from the sale of the produce with Avhich the church was decorated will be devoted to the .church, trust ( fund. , , The Salvation. Army Citadel Avas d.ecorated with greenery and harvest gifts Avhich will be auctioned to-mor-row. Brigadier T. Buttermore, Mrs Buttermore and Adjutant G. H. Pratt, of Christchurch, conducted the services. . _ , The Ashburton Baptist Church AA r as suitably decorated with greenery, the Rev. E. W. Goring, of Sproydon (secretary of the Canterbury Baptist Auxiliary) being the preacher. Special harvest hymns Avere sung by the choir. The produce will be auctioned this evening at a special thanksgiving service. , , Sunday School prizes Avere presented at a special children’s service in the afternoon, AA r hen the choir sang anthems.
