RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE NATIONAL MEETING. WELLINGTON, March 8. High scores were plentiful in the first two matches of the championship belt series which were fired at the .National Rifle Meeting at Trentham yesterday morning. These were one range match, each at 300 yards, as a result of which J. E. Farley (Wanganui) and R. C. Russell (Auckland) are the present leaders for the King’s Prize, each with an aggregate score of 97. The remaining practices in the service series were finished in the afternoon, and with the completion of these the service fifty to fire in the final match for the service championship was compiled. The leading place in the fifty is occupied by A. R. Symonds (Okawa) with 163 out of a possible 200. Results:— CANTERBURY MATCH (10 rounds at 300 yards). £5—P. B. Goldfinch (Karori) ... 49 £4 —F. H. James (Napier) ... 49 £3 each—S'. Roebuck (New Plymouth) 49, E. R. Truman (Christchurch) 49. The B grade match was won by A.. G. Rhodes (Greytown), who receives £3. OTAGO MATCH (10 rounds at 300yds). £4 10s each—T. L. Blomfield (Auckland City) 50, F. Hiseock (Christchurch) 50. £3—A. HI. O’Donnell (Petone) 49. £2 10s each—E. T. Haldane (Waipnkurau) 49, D. S. McKenzie (Opaki) 49. . £2 each—H. Koppert (Oamaru) 49,
