“BRIDGE OF LIBERATION.”
TROOPS IN OCCUPIED AREAS. REPORTED AT TEN THOUSAND. (Received This Day, 2.5 p.m.) BERLIN, March 8. The bridge at Bonn, over which the Germans marched into the demilitaiised zone, will be christened the “Bridge of Liberation.” A Frankfort-on-Main message says that inquiries in military circles indicate that the total German _ troops occupying the new garrisons in the Rhineland,, where there is some cliinculty in housing them despite the hasty taking over of schools, other buildings and the Baden Palitienate, Saar and Hesse, number 10,000. These repiesent detachments of various arms, which may be brought up to normal strength in six months. The foreign Press greatly exaggerates the number of troops entering the demilitarised zone. REPORTED APPROACH TO ITALY. LONDON, March 7. The Rome correspondent of the Exchange News Agency says it is now revealed that Germany approached Italy during the week asking her to join in a denunciation of the Locarno Treaty, but Signor Mussolini refused.
