The Rev. Albert Mead has been appointed to represent the New Zealand Congregational Union at meetings of the Congregational Union of England and Wales in May.
Mr G. M. Chambers (stationmaster at Ashburton) -will leave for Nelson tomorrow on his annual holiday. Mr C. G. McGonagle, of Christchurch, will relieve at Ashburton during his absence.
Mr H. E. Jessep, who has been appointed to the Ashburton Hospital Board in place of the late M r G. S. Hardy, was welcomed to the hoard this morning.
A vote of sympathy with the secretary (Mr A. Prentice) in the recent death of his father was passed in silence at the meeting of the Ashburton Hospital Board this morning.
Dr. J. Russell Wells intends to leave Ashburton to-morrow on his annual vacation. He will be absent for three weeks, and will go on a motor tour in the Eglinton Valley, the Milford Track and the Lakes district.
Leave cf absence for two months has been granted Miss E. J. Watt (matron of the Ashburton Public Hospital), who has been in hospital in Dunedin following injuries she suffered in a cycling accident in Otago ' some weeks ago. Miss Watt was on annual leave at the time of ■ the accident.
A Press Association telegram from Christchurch states that Mr Isaac Andrew, of Eccleston, ' Marton, formerly a leading Canterbury sheep breeder and now one .of the best-known judges in the Dominion, has accepted an invitation to act as judge at the Argentine Rural Society’s big international live stock show, to be held at Buencs Aires on August 22.
