BARTER IN WOOL

REJECTION BY AUSTRALIA. COUNTER-MOVE IN BERLIN. NO PRIVATE DEALINGS. NEW ZEALAND AFFECTED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, February 24. The Berlin correspondent of the Australian Associated Press writes : Supposedly in consequence of Australia rejecting the proposal for the barter of wool for motor parts, the Reichsbank has issued a decree rejecting all applications for permission to conduct private barter of German goods for Australian and New Zealand wool. The decree states that several “foreigner accounts” have been opened at the Reichsbank, to which is credited the value of German goods exported to New Zealand and Australia to finance the import of wool. It is assured that the decree means that every import of wool must be preceded by the purchase of a shipment of German products by a wool-exporting country.
