RED CROSS ’PLANE CRASHES.
. DESTRUCTION BY FIRE. GIFT CRAFT’S THIRD FLIGHT. (Received This Day, 8.50 a.m.) ADDIS ABABA, February 24, Oqing to failure to gain height, due to the rarified atmosphere, Captain Havter, who was flying to Jijigo to bring back the body of an Egyptian doctor, Sawy, a victim of dysentery, crashed. The aeroplane caught fire and was destroyed. Captain Hayter was slightly injured on the thigh and head. An Abyssinian co-pilot, Haile Georghis, was seriously injured. The ’plane was the gift of the League of Nations Union to the Red Cross as a result of £3OOO raised by public subscriptions. It had made two previous flights, during which difficulty in gaining height was experienced.

The announcement is made from Geneva that the Committee of Eighteen will meet to discuss, in the light of the recent report of the experts’ committee, the application of an oil embargo to Italy. The British Foreign Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden) will almost certainly attend, and it is understood that the French Foreign Minister (Mr Flandin) will also he present. Messages from Geneva also suggest that the committee may study the application of other possible sanctions which might be used to assist Abyssinia as the victim of aggression.—British Official Wireless.
