NOT TO BE EXTENDED.

AUSTRALIAN SEAMEN’S STRIKE. DECISION OF CONFERENCE. (United Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 17. A conference of the Federal Unions and the Australian emergency committee of the Council of Trades Unions defeated by a large majority a motion for the extension of the seamen’s strike. Mr Orr, the miners’ delegate, proposed that all the unions represented, should instruct their members not to undertake the moving and repairing of volunteer-manned vessels but scanty support was given to this. The onus for the continuance of the strike is now on the seamen, but without hope of success in any direction. Many desertions from the union are expected. The conference decided to instruct the Federal Labour members to move an adjournment when the House meets and demand the repeal of the 'Licensing Act.
