PRAISE FOR DOMINION SERVICE ' MR, H. CHAPMAN RETURNS. (Special to the “Guardian.”) AUCKLAND, February 17. After twelve months in Britain a.nd America, Mr H. Chapman, of Christchurch, former traffic manager of railways for Canterbury and Westland, returned by the Aorangi. Mr Chapman said that, taking everything into consideration no railways gave” better service than those of New Zealand. The English railways were the best in the world, hut when he told railway folk there that New Zealand railways provide trains running on a 3ft. 6in. guage compared with their 41t Blin, they were amazed. With the improvement of road transport facilities, the British railways had lost a large proportion of their passengers, as did the New Zealand lines.
