TEAR OF PRINCESS

CANADIAN STAMP NOVELTY. INGENIOUS FORGERIES. OTTAWA, January 2. The Canadian Post Office Department has reports that attempts have been made to forge a distinctive mark on one of Canada’s Jubilee issues of postage stamps. The stamp that has attracted the attention of forgers is known to philatelists as “The Weeping Princess.” It is a green one-cent issue, depicting Princess Elizabeth, issued some months ago to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession of King George and collectors shortly discovered that in some copies there was a mark just below tbe right eye of the Princess that looked like a tear. The tear does not appear on all copies, but only on the left stamp in the third row from the top of certain sheets, and it is not known how many of them are in existence. Nbw it has been discovered that some unscrupulous person is forging copies of “The Weeping Princess’ by”adding a tiny green tear to perfect copies.
