PETROL SALES.

PRICE-CUTTING RECURS. GOVERNMENT MAY FIX A MINIMUM. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 7. There is a strong possibility of Governmental action in the near future to fix minimum retail prices for petrol. Price-cutting among station proprietors has recently recuri ed. and strong representations were made on behalf of retailers that their working conditions should be protected by the imposition of minimum prices under the authority of an Order-in-Council. The current price of arts grade motor spirit in Wellington is 2s '■a gallon, but it is obtainable 2d less. The contention of petrol* station owners is that a margin o' at least 2d a gallon over the wholesale price is necessary to enable them to continue in business, but whether the Government will accept that figure remains to be seen.
