THE MEAT STRIKE

SUPPLIES FOR THE SUBURBS.

DIRECT FROM STORE AND DOCK.

STRIKERS’ JOKE AT AMATEURS

(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Ray, 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, February 5.

In connection with the strike of shopmeu at the Smithfield market arrangements have been made to transfer meat from cold store and docks to suburban depots and markets. Many butchers sent their oivn men and vans to collect supplies from Smithfield'. The strikers did not attempt to interfere, but good-humouredly joked at the amateur handling of the carcases.

Smithfield was again peacefully picketed throughtout the night. Under police protection, retail butchers collected meat supplies early this morning direct from London railway stations.
