THE ASHBIURTON CLUB. PROGRESS WITH COMPETITIONS. Progress is bejng made with the various competitions at the Ashburton Bawling Club, as follow: Champion singles, second life, second round, Higgins beat Colquhoun. This competition has reached an interesting stage. Cookroft is the only one left in with two lives. He plays Colquhoun this week in the final for the first life. There are five players in the second life. This should be reduced to two during the week. Champion pairs. J. W. Smith and W. R. Lane beat P. Dunn and Christmas (s) by 25 to 20 in the final for the second life and are certain to he in the final. The game was an even andi interesting onp throughout. At the sixth head the score was five all and 15 all at the 13th. At the 19th Lane was one up, 21-20. He scored on the last two heads making the final score 25-20. Handicap Pairs, first life, second round. McCrostie and J. W. Smith (s) beat Gilchrist and McElhinney (s) 25 to 19. McElhinney scored on 12 of the 21 heads but Smith’s total included two big scores, six on the third head and eight, the possible, on the 11th head. The possible is very rarely scored. First life, second round. Thomas and Tulloch (s) beat Bowden and Dnnlop. Colts’ Singles, second life, second round. McCrostie heat Thomas. Play on Saturday afternoon was delayed by showery weather-. Two club rink matches were however played and resulted in wins for Higgins’ rink, 1 up on W. R. Jjane and Minogue’s rink, 3 up on Mactier. Matches have been arranged for the next five Saturdays and a mid-week game will be played.
