SIR OWEN SEAMAN. FORMER EDITOR OF “PUNCH.” fUnited Press Association— Copyright.) LONDON, Feb. 3. Sir Owen Seaman, the famous humorist, and a former editor of “Punch, is dead, aged 74. Sir Owen Seaman Was educated at Shrewsbury School and at Claro College, Cambridge, where lie took a firstclass in the classical tripos in 1883. For a time ho was a schoolmaster, then professor of literature at the Durham College of Science, Newcastle. In 1897 be was called to the bar. Sir Owen joined the staff of “Punch” in 1897. Soon afterwards he was made assistant editor, and in 1906 bo succeeded Sir F. C. Burnand as cditoi;. Ho retired in 1932. In some of his verses be is considered to have equalled, and even surpassed, C. S l . Calverley, the brilliant Victorian parodist. Books by Sir Owen Seaman include, “Horace at Cambridge,” “Tillers of the Sffrid,” “In Cap and Bells,” “War Time,” “Made in England,” and “From the Home Front.” Ho was knighted in 1914.
