EVEREST ASCENT.
PLANS OF THE ADVANCE PARTY. HOPES OF SUCCESS VOICED. United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, February 2. Detailing, the plans for the advance party of the Everest expedition, Mr lluttledge said: “We will assault Everest probably between May 2' and June 10, when we will have a better chance than our precedessors, owing to the greatly improved oxygen apparatus. If after leaving the highest camp, 27,800 feet, we reach the summit, 1200 feet higher, and return to the camp within 15 hours, we shall have done extraordinarily well. If we succeed we shall stay at the top only a few minutes, owing to the cold being so intense that a human body can not stand it longer. We shall probably place the Union Jack on the top of the woild, if we get there, but the climb is so arduous that we may not be able to carry the extra weight.”
